CCBA: Promoting Sustainable Development

The Coast Community Builders Association (CCBA) was formed in 2007 by a small group of building and land development professionals to create a voice for addressing industry needs and concerns on the Sunshine Coast. Officially, the CCBA became a non-profit organization in 2008 and includes business-to-business networking, education and community support as part of its mandate. The foundation of the CCBA is based on the belief that we can keep our rural roots and grow our community into the future: responsibly, respectfully with sustainability so our future generations can enjoy the lifestyle that we enjoy today.

The CCBA has nearly 100 members and growing with a diverse group of builders, land developers and industry-related business owners who live and work on the Sunshine Coast.

The purpose of the association is to promote innovative cost effective environmentally responsible and sustainable approaches to land development, to facilitate and positively influence the residential and commercial development process, to foster co-operation amongst all levels of government and citizens in land-use planning initiatives and to facilitate education and training opportunities in the construction trades.

We know the Sunshine Coast is rich with resources including products and services provided by local vendors for homes and cottages, and we want to share this message.

Jobs in Demand

Jobs in Demand is a program funded through the Government of Canada that seeks to resolve unemployment rates with youth in specific in-demand industries. On the Sunshine Coast, Jobs in Demand runs 4 different industry cohorts a year. This summer, we have partnered with the Sechelt Indian Band to create a bigger and better program.

As of right now, two cohorts are running simultaneously together: Trades Assistant and Tourism/Retail. The Trades Assistant program seeks to give training young people an opportunity to get into the Trades or Sub-Trades industries through specific certificates such as: Backhoe, Forklift, OFA, Confined Space, Traffic Control, WHMIS and many more. Some of our clients have worked in this industry already, and some are new to the trades, however they are all very reliable and hard-working.

If you are looking to fill an employment need within your business, do not hesitate to contact Laura at laura.smit@opendoorgroup.org / 604-885-3351 ext 3001. Our services are free, and even if our needs don’t match up, we will get you sorted with our affiliate, Work BC.

THANK-YOU to all of our generous sponsors, volunteers and community members who made our 2017 Home & Garden Expo such a huge success!
